The Week Of My Life
Jack Laver from Sir Robert Pattinson Academy recently joined us for a week of work experience. Many of our colleagues commented on his enthusiasm and work ethic, so before he finished we asked him to share his thoughts on the week he spent with us.
I first heard about Software Europe in a career guidance meeting at school. I was told about the company, who they are and what they do. I was eager to know more and so a few weeks later I made sure I went to the work experience presentation and the next day I sent in my CV and was accepted.
Before I started, I had a mixture of excitement and nerves. What was I going to do? What will everyone be like? One thing I did know though was that I would gain a lot of good qualities from the week.
The day arrived and I found myself sitting in reception. I met the CEO Neil Everatt who made me feel so welcome, that all the nerves just went away. I started with the Sales and Marketing teams which was great, but I particularly loved Marketing. It felt like it was made for me because of how creative I am. I went home buzzing, telling my parents what I had done and I couldn’t wait to go back.
I spent time throughout various departments and found it intriguing how they all work together. I loved being a part of a work environment, especially one that is so friendly and welcoming.
I loved working with the Service Desk, in particular Luke Redhead who was great. We went through the building setting up monitors and fixing software which I really enjoyed doing. In Business Support, they set me the task of finding them an all in one printer/fax/scan/photocopier and I made a spreadsheet of all of the options.
Out of all of the departments I worked in, Marketing stood out for me. It involves a lot of creativity which is right up my street and is definitely something I'd like to pursue as a career.
Throughout the week I gained some brilliant qualities such as working under pressure, time management and just being in a real work environment. I also gained knowledge on different departments, and finally found out what I want to do when I am older.
Overall my week has been unforgettable and I have loved every second of it. This experience has been the best and I'd encourage anyone considering work experience to get their name down because I discovered what I want to do with my life, whilst gaining so many qualities.
I would like to thank Software Europe for giving me the week of my life and making me feel so welcome. I didn’t want to leave but my week had to come to an end. In the future, I'd like to come back here and make a life for myself.
