Two lobsters and champagne...

Two lobsters and champagne...

Travelling away on business, my friend and his manager decided on a fish restaurant for their evening meal. As they perused the menu, the manager suggested that they deserved a nice meal and if my friend covered the meal on his expenses he would authorise it. The manager was really going for it with champagne and two lobsters. To be fair they were a little on the smaller side. Once the meal was paid for the manager turns to my friend and explains that he plans to resign tomorrow.

This real example is extreme but the manager sign-off is common. The expenses policy should clearly state that the most senior person should claim the meal. In addition a list of attendees is a requirement.
