10 ways NHS Expenses has changed the NHS

A decade ago on the 13th August we welcomed our first NHS organisation Basildon and Thurrock University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Over the proceeding 10 years we've welcomed over 200 NHS organisations, processing over £250 million of NHS workforce expenses per year, saving the NHS over £33 million each year.

Here's what our very first customer had to say 10 years on!

"Since implementing NHS Expenses back in August 2007 we’ve saved thousands of pounds on our expenses spend, and thousands of man hours too.

The customer experience and service from Selenity (formerly Software Europe) has always been exemplary from the implementation 10 years ago to the yearly reviews we have with our account manager. They always want to ensure we're getting the most out of the solution and show us the new features as it's consistently updated.

We love that NHS Expenses is constantly updated with newer features and we love the updated NHS Expenses Mobile app, enhanced reports suite as well as the many specific NHS features including different mileage rules and deductions”

To celebrate this landmark we take a look at 10 ways NHS Expenses has changed the NHS.

1. Proven savings

Each year over 1.2 million expense items are challenged by the Artificial Intelligence (AI) engine, which checks for policy and HMRC compliance, ensuring unrivalled cost reductions.

2. Accurate mileage

The extensive journey validation allows pin point accuracy and helps to reduce mileage overspend. Many NHS specific rules are built-in as standard.

3. ESR integration

The inbound interface sends payments automatically into ESR, and the outbound interface updates NHS Expenses synchronising staff details with ESR, ensuring all required personnel details are up-to-date and automatically creating new records for new starters and archiving leavers without the need for administration.

4. Mobilised workforce

Expenses, anytime, anywhere with compatibility across iPhone, Android and Windows Phone. The ability to submit and approve expenses whilst you're out and about is an incredible timesaver.

5. Full mobile submission

Featuring quick access via pin or fingerprint, the NHS Expenses app boasts unrivalled functionality, it doesn't just support NHS Expenses it’s a key driver of it.

6. Configurability

The most configurable expenses system for the NHS. Including many NHS specific features including 'home to base' calculations and flexible policy configuration including Agenda for Change and local policies.

7. Systems integration

The ability to integrate into various HR and finance systems, means that data is quickly transferred to save time and ensure accuracy.

8. Spend analysis

Increased visibility of data makes it easy to identify further costs savings and drill down into areas of high spend. Current processes and expenses can be streamlined through this level of spend analysis

9. Duty of Care

Enhancing driver and vehicle care with accurate document storage, ensuring the necessary checks are in place before mileage expenses are reimbursed.

10. DVLA licence check

The only NHS Expenses solution to integrate into the DVLA for direct driver and vehicle checks, providing an enhanced level of duty of care.
