Back To School!
Last week two of our colleagues switched careers for a morning and went into a local school to take over a morning of lessons!
Sir Robert Pattinson Academy ran a ‘Workwise Day’ and invited our Chief Executive Officer, Neil Everatt and Darren Newton our Chief Technology Officer to engage with the students about careers. The day involved students linking with employers to find out what a career sector can offer and the skills needed. It was their chance to get an insight into different types of careers and speak to the employers to gain a heads up on how to make sure they have skills and qualifications that they need.
Neil and Darren ran a series of activities that involved the students working together to achieve certain goals and use these to teach them the importance of skills and the qualities that employers look for. They followed this up with a session on CVs, first impressions, selling themselves and general advice when applying for a job. Feedback from the school has been positive and made many students think about their future career path, how they present themselves and the skills needed to prepare for the way forward.
Neil commented, “We actively engage with local schools to assist in preparing students for the world of work. It can be quite a daunting time for them and so to be able to pass on some advice that I’ve learnt throughout my career, I hope will be useful. The students were enthusiastic and got involved in the activities and one day a few could be employed by Selenity (formerly Software Europe)! We take great pride in supporting our local community and we’ll continue to find new ways to engage and interact them.”
